18 Feb 2010 - Workshop

This month’s meeting had been planned principally for Society members of whom 15 were present either requesting help or manning our various fiche readers and computers in order to help others. To our surprise there were also 22 visitors who arrived armed with their own information and requests on "what to do next".

Numbers meant that some people had to wait a while for attention, but a supply of tea/coffee and biscuits organized by Paddy Mathieson helped to pass the time and we think that everyone left with some additional information. This was a gratifying response to Graeme’s publicity announcement in "The Ayr Advertiser" and indicates that there are many potential members locally – one visitor did join there and then. Thanks go to those who worked tirelessly, often without a refreshment break, to answer questions and to man the research equipment.

Successful though the evening undoubtedly was, it is now clear that events of this nature have to be held in larger premises where our equipment can be set up more comfortably and where additional material can be easily displayed.

Sheila Dinwoodie.
